The Tuscola Garden Club will host Pat Maier with the National Park Service at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Bethea Welcome Center at Lake Junaluska. Maier will present, "Purchase Knob: Past, Present and Future."

Purchase  Knob is a 535-acre site, privately owned by Kathryn McNeil and Voit Gilmore since 1964, which was donated to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2000.  The park has developed the site as a scientific research and learning center, which includes administrative offices and laboratory space, along with classrooms and housing for visiting scientists.

The club will hear about the important scientific studies that have been done and work that is ongoing, as well as plans for future projects at Purchase Knob to help keep the environs of the park and the Appalachian mountains healthy and beautiful.

Visitors are welcome. For directions or for more information about the Tuscola Garden Club, call 246-0437.
