Tuscola girls swimmers pick up two winsSchumacher, Stringfield and McLeod win two individual events each
ASHEVILLE — The Tuscola varsity girls swim team improved to 5-0 in meets this season after beating Asheville School (64-30) and Asheville Christian (78-16) Friday night.
However, the Tuscola boys, which was effected by the “flu bug,” lost three times to Christ School (69-24), Asheville School (69-24) and Asheville Christian (48-39).
Tonight’s meet with T.C. Roberson has been cancelled, while several Mountaineers will be competing in the annual IRONMAN Saturday. Tuscola’s next meet will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m., against Smoky Mountain in the Haywood Regional Fitness Center pool.
Picking up multiple individual wins for the Tuscola girls were Florida State-bound and senior Katy Stringfield (200 free, 100 fly), senior Hannah McLeod (200 IM, 100 free) and junior London Schumacher (50 free, 100 breast), while freshmen Annie Ly and Cora Dodson won one event each in the 500 free and 100 back, respectively.
In the girls relays, Tuscola’s 200 medley and 400 free (McLeod, Schumacher, Ly and Stringfield) and the 200 free (junior Vanessa Ly, Dodson, junior Chloe Zacher and freshman Karalee Corbeil) finished first.
In the boys meet, winning individual events for the Mountaineers were sophomore Mason Calhoun (100 fly) and freshman Jack MacDonald (100 free).
