Tuscola girls win own invitational

As expected, the Tuscola varsity girls swim team easily won its own inviational meet on Saturday.
The Mountaineers finished first at the Tuscola Invitational with 649 points, 254 points better than second-place Smoky Mountain (395). Owen was third (219), Hayesville was fourth (205) and Hendersonville (173) finished fifth.
Rounding out the girls meet was Murphy (sixth), Erwin (seventh), Asheville Christian Academy (eighth) and Andrews (ninth).
It was a battle for the top three spots in the Tuscola Boys Invitational as Owen (348) finished first, Hendersonville (341.5) was second and the Mountaineers (332.5) were third.
Smoky Mountain (288) finished a distant fourth, ACA (244) was fifth, Murphy (142) came in sixth, Erwin (103) finished seventh, Andrews (90) was eighth and Hiwassee Dam (31) was ninth.
Picking up multiple wins for the Tuscola girls in individual events were senior Katy Stringfield in the 200 free and 500 free, and junior London Schumacher  in the 200 IM and 100 breast, while senior Hannah McLeod won the 100 fly and sophomore Erin Peterson touched in first in the 100 free.
The Tuscola 200 medley relay (freshman Cora Dodson, junior Vanessa Ly, freshman Annie Ly, junior Chloe Zacher) team and the 400 free relay (Peterson, Annie Ky, McLeod, Schumacher) team finished first.
Picking up multiple wins for the Tuscola boys in individual events were senior Collin Purrman in the 200 free and the 500 free, freshman Jack MacDonald in the 50 free and the 100 free and sophomore Mason Calhoun in the 100 fly and 100 back.
The Tuscola 200 400 free relay (MacDonald, sophomore Stefan Emsheimer, Calhoun and Purrman) team finished first.
