MAGGIE VALLEY — The Tuscola varsity boys golf team beat second place Pisgah, 155-195, and third place Smoky Mountain, 155-204, in a WNC Athletic Conference 9-hole match last week at the Maggie Valley Golf and Resort.
The Mountaineers, who advanced to the state finals in last spring, have not lost a conference match since 2014.
Tuscola’s Sam Cox and Danny Planchock were the only golfers to break 40 in the match against the Black Bears and Mustangs. Cox took medalist honors with a well-played 36, while Planchock finished at 39.
“I am pleased with the victory but we were short of our goal of 150 for a nine hole match,” said Tuscola Head Coach Aaron Smith. “This is where we will have to be as a team if we expect to be competitive at the state level.”
