Tuscola handed first defeat

Messer’s boys lose to Pumas, girls win easy

ASHEVILLE — The Tuscola varsity boys basketball team was dropped from the ranks of the unbeatens Friday night after the Asheville Cougars (1-2) handed the Mountaineers (3-1) a 65-44 defeat in non-conference action.   
Asheville High led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter, 27-21, at the break and 42-30 going into the final quarter.
Senior Logan Hardin pumped in a game-high 14 points for Tuscola, while Aaron Westhusing chipped in 10.
The Mountaineers will host Erwin ( 8 p.m.) on Tuesday, Dec 4.
In the varsity girls game, Tuscola whipped Asheville, 65-51, to move to 3-1 overall.
For the Mountaineers, senior Shelby Tricoli finished with a game-high 26 points, while Peyton Fisher chipped in 12, Taylor Gibson had nine, Ashley McClure and Alex Swanger scored seven points each.
