Tuscola’s girls beat Asheville and Reynolds

ASHEVILLE — The Tuscola varsity girls swim team improved to 3-0 on the season after thrashing Asheville (208-56) and edging Reynolds (158-108) in a tri-meet Thursday night.
In the boys meet, Tuscola managed a split, beating Reynolds (133-84) but lost to the Cougars (166-95) to move to 1-2 overall.
Picking up wins for the Tuscola girls in individual events were Katy Stringfield (200 free/500 free), Hannah McLeod (200 IM) and London Schumacher (100 free).
In the girls relay events, the Mountaineers’ 200 medley and the 400 free teams (Schumacher, Vanessa Ly, Stringfield and McLeod) finished first.
Other notable individual finishes for the Tuscola girls were Cora Dodson (second - 200 free/second - 100 back), Erin Peterson (third - 200 free/fourth - 100 breast), Tess Steele (fourth - 200 free/fourth - 100 free), Karalee Corbeil (fourth - 200 IM), Chloe Zacher (second - 50 free/second - 100 free), McLeod (second - 100 fly), Megan Jameson (fourth - 100 fly), Ly (third - 500 free/third - 100 breast), Schumacher (second - 100 breast).
Also in the relays for the Tuscola girls, the 200 medley relay team (Corbeil, Peterson, Jameson and Julia Turpin) finished third, the 200 free relay teams (Dodson, Peterson, Zacher and Maggie Rogers), (Allie Dinwiddie, Corbeil, Turpin and Steele) were second and third, respectively, while the 400 free relay team (Zacher, Jameson, Dodson and Rogers) was third.
Picking up wins for the Tuscola boys were Collin Purrman (200 free), Jack MacDonald (100 free), and its 400 free relay team (MacDonald, Stefan Emsheimer, Mason Calhoun and Purrman).
Other notable individual finishes for the Tuscola boys were MacDonald (second - 200 IM), Emsheimer (third - 50 free), Calhoun (second - 100 fly/second - 100 back), Purrman (second - 500 free), Liam McLeod (second - 100 breast) and Kevin Williams (third - 100 breast).
Also in the relays for the Tuscola boys, the 200 medley relay team (Purrman, Calhoun, McLeod and MacDonald) finished  second.
Next for the Tuscola swim team will be a non-conference meet at Asheville High (4 p.m.) on Friday, Dec. 7.
