Undefeated WMS blanks RugbyPressel, Foeglio and Raya score goals for the Mountaineers, while Thompson records seventh shutout of the season
The undefeated Waynesville Middle School boys soccer team scored all its goals in the first half to defeat Rugby Middle, 3-0, in a Blue Ridge Conference first round match at Weatherby Stadium on Monday.
The Mountaineers, which improved to 11-0-0, will meet Macon Middle at 4 p.m. for the third time this season at Weatherby today. Tuscola High’s junior varsity and varsity matches will follow the WMS match.
In the match’s 28th minute, Peyton Pressel scored on an assist from Manny Trejo-Lugo and two minutes later, Elijah Foeglio finished a pass from Ben Katt to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead. The third goal was a great run and finish by Allan Raya late in the first half.
With a 3-0 lead, Waynesville Middle’s defensive third held the Rugby squad off throughout the second half. Goalkeeper Holdan Thompson records his seventh shutout.
The Mountaineers also raised their season’s goal differential to a plus-47.
