Unemployment rate drops slightly in Haywood County

It might not be a big drop, but the unemployment rate in Haywood County is showing a slight decrease compared to last year.

In a report released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Haywood County’s unemployment rate in July 2012 was at 8.3 percent, a 1.4 percent decrease from the 9.7 percent rate in July 2011.

While the decrease isn’t huge, it does indicate movement in the right direction, said Larry Parker, public information director for the department.
