Springtime is the time to create.  The Inspired Art Ministry, Inc. (Iam), out of First Baptist Church in Waynesville, offers one-of-a-kind art and photography classes for adults and art classes for children.  What makes it one-of-a-kind — the "Protiques" in the drawing and painting classes, for one thing.  Finding traditional critiques too negative led owner/instructor Char Avrunin to redesign the evaluation process and name it Protique.  Two things are talked about — what's working and why (using art terms that were learned in class); and what could be improved and how (again using their art voices).  Negativity is not allowed here.  The focus is on teaching students how to develop their own particular styles in a positive and uplifting atmosphere and everyone joins in the process of helping each other become the best they can be.

• Digital Photography for Advanced Students — taught by Master Photographer, Ed Kelley, classes are packed with everything you need to know to have photographs of the highest quality, for show or personal use.  Kelley teaches the best methods for editing, printing and storing your photos.  The magnitude and quality of these classes is usually not found in small towns.  .

• Art Classes for Children (ages 5 to 14) — taught by Scottie Harris, are fun-filled sessions where Harris teaches the students how to "see" the shapes they're drawing and use multimedia color techniques.  She includes ideas from the children on the choice of subject matter.

Drawing Classes for Adults are held 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays, March 4 to April 8,

Painting Classes for Adults are held 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, March 5  to  April 9.

Children's Art Classes are held 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 2 to April 30.

Photography classes will begin in late April.
