United Way of Haywood launches Coast2Coast Rx partnership

Jan 07, 2013

The providers of the Coast2Coast Rx card, together with the United Way of Haywood County announced a partnership to promote and distribute the discount prescription cards that allow consumers to receive significant savings on prescription drugs and other healthcare services.

By providing this important resource to help consumers improve their health and financial stability, the Coast2Coast Rx card will help the United Way further its mission of improving lives and striving for the greater good in the communities that it serves.

Coast2Coast Rx differs from other free discount prescription cards by giving back to the communities it serves, by providing access to affordable medicines to help improve both consumers’ health outcomes and their personal finances, and by creating revenue for its partnering organization. In its collaboration with Coast2Coast Rx, United Way of Haywood County will receive $1.25 for each prescription filled using the card, helping the organization to maximize its investment in the community.

For the United Way of Haywood County, this means the opportunity to help children prepare for kindergarten—income generated by the Coast2Coast Rx card will fund the local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, providing a free book each month to children from birth to age five to encourage a love of reading and school readiness.

“At the United Way we believe that improved health and personal finances are critical to building stronger communities, and the Coast2Coast Rx card is an easy-to-use tool that addresses each of those priority areas while also creating a much-needed revenue stream,” said Executive Director of the United Way of Haywood County Celesa Willett.

Already endorsed by more than 280 municipalities nationwide, Coast2Coast Rx saves consumers millions of dollars on their prescriptions and other healthcare services each year. With no restrictions on age, income status, or existing health conditions, the benefits of the card apply to everyone: those with no insurance coverage, the underinsured and those with high deductibles or prescriptions not covered by their health plan. In some cases, Medicare patients will find that the card can help reduce costs of the Part D “donut hole.”

“Collaborating with United Way of Haywood County allows us to reach as many consumers in need as possible,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “Our shared priorities—to help individuals and families improve their health and finances while contributing to the good of the community—are the foundation of this partnership.”

Cardholders save an average of 60 percent, and up to 75 percent, on more than 60,000 brand name or generic drugs at the 59,000-plus  participating pharmacies, which includes major chains and many independent locations. Through partner programs, consumers can also utilize their Coast2Coast Rx card for discounts on dental, vision, hearing and lab services, as well as diabetes supplies and even veterinary care and many pet prescriptions. With no paper work to fill out, no membership requirements and no expiration date, the card is a simple way for consumers to immediately save money on their medications and certain healthcare services. Residents can pick up a card from the United Way of Haywood County office in Waynesville or download and print one from www.uwhaywood.org.
