'Using WordPress to Build a Website for Your Business' is March 20

CLYDE — The Small Business Center at Haywood Community College will offer a free seminar called “Using WordPress to Build a Website for Your Business,” from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, in building 200, room 203 on the main campus, 175 Freedlander Drive, Clyde.

Having a web presence is critical for any business. Learn how to build your business' web platform with WordPress, one of the most popular website publishing platforms on the open source market. This course will offer a thorough overview of the background, install process, setup, and build out process of a WordPress website. Topics covered will be initial setup, inserting content, selecting the correct template, selecting the correct plugins, optimization and security. This class is great for beginners, but advanced WordPress users will also benefit greatly. Laptop recommended but not required.

The speaker is Boomer Sassmann, owner and founder of Big Boom Design. With a degree from Appalachian State University in product design and a passion for web development, Sassmann has run this Asheville-based design agency since 2007. Currently, he manages a team of six employees and supports over 300 companies across the United States. Since moving to Asheville, Sassmann has been involved with the AB-Tech Business Incubator, organizer of the Asheville WordCamp conference, and consultant to hundreds of business owners. His passion for web development, coupled with a drive to “bridge the digital divide,” has resulted in a unique educational approach to empowering business owners about the internet. He is a serial entrepreneur, designer, builder and all-around maker.
