Vacation Bible School (VBS) in Haywood kicked off with a vengeance this summer and for Calvary Road Baptist Church of Waynesville, the theme of the week is Treasure Island.

Many churches have various themes and the summer will be full of VBS fun all over the county. Calvary Road opened Sunday, June 22, with 75 children and held commencement Friday closing with a skit, a music performance from the children and a presentation of certificates for all that attended.

The kids enjoyed music, crafts, Bible stories, recreation and games, opening skits, and class time at the end of the night to review the stories, with many more things throughout the week.

VBS is open to all in the community and children are encouraged to stop by any day and enjoy the Lord with Calvary Road.

Director of VBS, Nancy Rogers, shared that this summer they have decided to do something new with their offering they receive during the week.

“Our offering is going to go to missions this summer,” said Rogers. “If we raise $3,000, the Rev. John Swanger has promised that Friday at commencement he will get a Mohawk on stage, and preach with it Sunday.”

This is a fun way for the kids to get involved and the cause is close to home for Calvary Road, having a family in the church doing mission work in Sylvania said Rogers.

There will be VBSs all over the county this summer so make sure to take the kids to a few to get involved.

Here is a list of some of the upcoming VBSs we are aware of:
