Loving Mother, Grandmother
WAYNESVILLE — Velma Mae Crawford, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Haywood Lodge.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Mila McElroy McClure. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Crawford, who died in 1993; a daughter, Cathy Mull; and a grandson, Austin Crawford. Velma graduated from Haywood High School and was employed at Haywood Lodge for 20 years. She was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in the Eastern Star. Velma also loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Max.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Crawford, of Waynesville; one son, Aaron Crawford, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Trevor Smith, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Angie Hendrix, of Manchester, Tennessee; and four great-grandchildren, Cullen McCoy, Kayla Smith, Easton Freeman and Bryson Smith, all of Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to services.
