Vineival returns July 28
The sixth annual Vineival will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Vine of the Mountains church building in Frog Level, next to the Armory.
School supplies are collected. Door prizes are plentiful. Backpacks are waiting. Dozens of Central Elementary students and their families have registered.
Sponsored by Vine of the Mountains, the event features a wide variety of carnival-style games. Central Elementary students who attend will receive free backpacks with all required schools supplies for their respective grades.
Crafts, hot dogs and door prizes will also be given away.
“We do this event because we know how expensive starting school can be. With the rising prices we are all experiencing; a little goes a long way,” said Wende Goode, the Vine’s community outreach director.
“By coming to the Vineival, Central Elementary students receive what they need to start the 2012 school year off right,” Goode said. “A lot of families have to take bill money to pay for school supplies. By getting these school supplies at the Vineival, parents will be able to use the money they save on other needs.”
Last year, 92 Haywood County students got in on the fun and freebies. Goode estimates the Vine has given away roughly 300 backpacks over the event’s first five years.
Fifty-five students have already registered for the Vineival, but there is room for more. Parents with a student at Central Elementary are asked to call 452-2771, ext. 5, to register.
“Not only do we want to give out the supplies, but we want our neighbors to enjoy some healthy, free fun with their families and friends,” Goode said. “This is the goal of the Vineival: befriending the community where we worship God.”
