Virginia Bessie Mikels Clark
WAYNESVILLE — Virginia Bessie Mikels Clark, 92, of Waynesville passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at Autumn Care Center. She was a native of Jackson County.
Virginia retired from the business office of Western Carolina University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sylva, where she served as elder and clerk of session. She was active in the American Red Cross, the Sylva Garden Club and the United Christian Ministries. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Hattie Hall Mikels. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Ray Clark; a brother, Roy Mikels; and a granddaughter, Holly Marie Clark.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Mason of Waynesville; two sons, Mike Clark and his wife Lynda of Cullowhee and Harold Clark and his wife Tammie of Hayesville; one sister, Thelma Olt of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at Keener Cemetery. The Revs. Bill Serjak and Dave Whitesides officiated. The family received friends from 3 until 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church after the service.
