Loving Mother, Grandmother

CANTON  — Virginia Louise Burke Harbin, 85, of Lakeview Drive, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Mrs. Harbin was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Haywood County to the late Joseph Warren Burke and the late Dovie Gaddy Burke. She had made her home in Haywood County all of her life and was a devoted homemaker.  Mrs. Harbin was of the Baptist faith.  She enjoyed listening to country music and she was also an avid NASCAR fan.   Virginia deeply loved her family and her grandchildren were the love of her life. “Mamaw Ginna” will always hold a special place in their hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Harbin Jr., who passed away in 1985; a son, Gary Keith Harbin;  sisters, Mamie Wines and Mildred Henderson; and brothers, Jim, Lewis, Earl, Lenoir and Milton Burke.

Surviving are her daughters, Judy Bowman, and her husband, Bob Bowman, of Canton, Gail Hollingsworth, and her husband, Ernie Hollingsworth, of Flat Rock, and Susan Ray, of Asheville; her sons, Rick Harbin, and his wife, Pam Harbin, of Brevard, and Larry Harbin, and his wife, Kim Harbin, of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Warren, and her husband, Charles Warren, of Brevard; and her special friend, Flo Sharp, of Canton, who was like a sister to Virginia.

A graveside funeral service will be held at  noon Friday, March 8, at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The Revs. Jessie Hollingsworth and Jacob Smith will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the graveside funeral service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Larry and Kim Harbin, 8 Timberline Dr., in Canton.
