The Voices in the Laurel’s WINTER SILENT AUCTION will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 in Room 202 of Lake Junaluska's Harrell Center, adjacent to the Stuart Auditorium and Terrace Hotel.
Come bid on a variety of local and national items, art, pottery, gift baskets, jewelry, salon and massage services, restaurant gift certificates, getaways and tickets to various regional theme parks.
This auction is on the same day as the Junaluska Christmas Craft Show, which will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harrell Center. This event is held in conjunction with the Appalachian Christmas Weekend at Lake Junaluska and the Voices in the Laurel Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Lake Junaluska chapel.
Signature items at the auction include Dinner for Two at the Swag, Dinner for Two at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, a Two Night Stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Asheville, $125 certificate for the Asheville Symphony, $123 PartyLite Collection, and a spa package from Balsam Spa. For fans of the arts, the auction includes tickets to Asheville Symphony, Flat Rock Playhouse, and HART theater. For pampering yourself or others, items include Balsam Mountain Spa, New Attitudes Hair Salon, and Mountain Radiance Medical Spa. Voices in the Laurel is a Haywood County based nonprofit choir for young people ranging from 1st grade through 12th grade from Haywood, Buncombe, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties under the direction of Martha Brown. Voices in the Laurel is an authentic program that focuses on providing young people quality choral education in fun and innovative ways.
Voices in the Laurel provides choristers the opportunity to participate in performance tours all over the world. Some of the places Voices in the Laurel has performed are: with the Asheville Lyric Opera at the Diana Wortham Theater, Charleston’s "Little Spoleto" Festival, opened for Dolly Parton in her Christmas show at Dollywood, with Ronnie Milsap at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the National Anthem, annually at Atlanta Braves or Cincinnati Reds games, the Pacific Rim Children’s Choir Festival in Hawaii, the National Cathedral in Washington DC, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan, Westminster Abbey in London, Chartres Cathedral in France and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Voices in the Laurel enjoyed a summer 2012 performance tour in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain and will be singing at Carnegie Hall in the spring of 2014.
