Volunteers are Needed at Haywood Spay/Neuter
For the first time in several years Haywood Spay/Neuter was forced to close its doors during regular hours due to lack of staff.
This year Haywood Spay/Neuter has provided over 2,700 pets with spay/neuter services, has another 200 waiting and the $10 special is bringing clients in by the dozens. It is also colder and snow-birds have flown south, staff and volunteers numbers have dwindled as illness and family obligations take many more away from their services with us.
Spaying and neutering pets is the best proven way to reduce the numbers of pets entering the county shelter. Those that enter the shelter are at great risk to be euthanized especially cats. If you hate the fact that healthy dogs and cats are euthanized regularly at the shelter, then you can help us by volunteering.
We really need the help of people in our community to provide regular assistance at the office. We can't do what we do without paperwork required by donors and funding sources without people to help answer the phone, do the filing, help keep our office clean, neat and welcoming. We are asking people to give us 2 to 4 hours weekly to help.
Also, on alternate Wednesdays 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. we need helpers to greet clients and help put the pets on the transport truck and on alternate Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help off-load the pets, client assistance and transport crate clean up.
If you want to be part of our team, call C J Deering at 828-452-1329. Do leave a message if you get the answering machine. We get lots of calls every day. She will get back to you.
