Volunteers needed for Special Olympics

By Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department | Mar 25, 2014

Special Olympics Haywood County needs volunteers for the following efforts: training, competition, athlete recruitment, family, finance, fundraising and public relations.

The first committee meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Waynesville Recreation Center. There will also be a volunteer training meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Waynesville Recreation Center.

Other volunteers are needed for special events, assistant coaches for current athletic events, and head coaches and assistant coaches for athletic events currently not offered in Haywood County.

The Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continued opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and their community.
