WAYNESVILLE — Wade Richard Shipman, 83, of Waynesville passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Homestead Hospice in Clyde.
Born April 19, 1929, in Richmond, Virginia, he was a son of the late Oz and Rosie Burns Shipman. He retired from Barth Sheet Metal in 1987 and was a devoted Christian.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Joseph E. Shipman; daughter, Alice Shipman; brother, Claude Shipman, and sister, Virginia Shipman.
Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Edith Harrin Shipman; sons, Wade Shipman Jr., and wife, Kathy, of Canton, Wayne Shipman, and wife, Margaret, of Clyde, Joseph D. Shipman, and wife, Vicky, and David Shipman, and wife, Michelle, all of Canton; daughters, Rosemary Parker, of Waynesville, and Carolyn Shipman, of Clyde; brother, George Griffin of Ridgeway, Virginia; sisters, Lillian Blankenship, and Louise Lance and husband, Poly, all of Canton; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative at 702 Riverside Drive, Asheville, NC 28801. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
