1921 — 2013
CANTON, GEORGIA — Wallace (Buddy) Robinson, 91, passed quietly in Atlanta, Georgia, Monday Jan. 14, 2013. Buddy was born July 24, 1921, raised in the Hazelwood section of Waynesville, and is survived by a sister, Helen Jewel Boyd, a longtime resident; son Michael, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Robinson, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Holly Brooks, of Burlington, Brian Robinson, of Tampa, Florida, and Olivia Robinson, of Atlanta, and Courtney Cancienne, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and one great-grandchild, Brody Cancienne.
Graduating from Waynesville Township High School, Buddy joined the U.S. Army Air Corps February 1942 and served through 1946. Also that year, he married the former Gladys Phillips, of Waynesville. Buddy and Gladys moved to Newport News, Virginia in 1950, when he was hired by the Northrop Grumman Shipyard, retiring from the yard, after 35 years of distinguished service, in 1985. Together they were founding members of Deer Park Baptist Church, active in the Boy Scouts of America and local youth sports.
They relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to be near their son, and extended family in 2006. After 61 years of marriage, Gladys passed in 2007. Buddy continued to lead an active life, taking great pleasure in watching the Atlanta Braves, and being with his grandchildren. He will be joining Gladys at Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville, following a private family service. Buddy was a good husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and will be solely missed.
Roswell Funeral Home, of Roswell, Georgia handled arrangements.
