Wastewater Treatment employees certified

Three employees of the Wastewater Treatment facility have passed wastewater operators’ certification exams.

Sam Reece, wastewater maintenance worker, and Lanier Collins, night shift wastewater operator, passed the Wastewater Biological Grade 1 certification exam. Eric Messer, wastewater treatment plant senior mechanic, passed the Grade 2 exam. These certifications are administered by the N.C. Water Pollution Control Certification Commission section of N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

There are four grade levels of achievement that match the Wastewater Treatment Facilities Grade in North Carolina. Eligibility to take the exams is determined by a combination of education experience and required classes. Messer will be eligible to take additional exams in the coming months due to combined experience with the town and a previous wastewater treatment plant.

"I'm really proud of them and their achievements," said Wastewater Treatment plant director David Smith.

The town’s leadership and the Public Services Department recognizes the accomplishments of these individuals and thanks them for their dedication and commitment to their career track goals and to the citizens and visitors to Waynesville.
