Waterways group receives Kiwanis grant

Dec 09, 2013
Kiwanis President John Franco and Grants Chairman Sam Crain present Eric Romaniszyn, executive director of Haywood Waterways, the grant check and Kids in the Creek program.

Haywood Waterways Association received a $1400 grant from the Kiwanis Club of Waynesville’s Unrestricted Grants Program.

The grant will be used to provide water chemistry sampling kits and water analysis kits to students for the Kids in the Creek Program.

The Kids in The Creek program was started in 1997. The focus of this program exposes all 8th grade students in Haywood County to a hands-on water quality activity and training.

Each year about 750 students are involved in the Kids in The Creek program where each student is involved in six hours of instruction.

To date Haywood Waterways has taught over 9,750 students and has provided over 58,500 hours of instruction.

Kiwanis is dedicated to helping educate the children of Haywood County.  Through grants and collaboration such as this, the Club is able to reach more youth.
In addition to this grant, the Kiwanis Club funded $5,431 other grant requests from the Unrestricted Grants Program.
