The Waynesville Civilian Police Academy provides citizens the chance to understand the various aspects of the police department on a more personal level and the opportunity to interact with the police force. A wide range of topics are discussed including operations, uniform patrol, traffic services and investigations.

Attendees also get to meet the K9 officers and take a trip to the firing range.

The academy will meet each Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for six weeks at the Waynesville Police Department starting Sept. 13.

Applications are available during normal business hours from the clerk's office at the police department. Applications must be received no later than Sept. 4.

Class size is limited and open to county residents free of charge

Applicants must be at least 21 years old

Applicants are required to have a background check
