The Million Coin Campaign: Cash Conquers Cold got a much-needed boost last weekend when the Waynesville Fire Department personnel volunteered their time to conduct a “boot campaign.”
This sort of campaign, one where firemen or law enforcement officers stand at busy intersections or parking lots with a boot in hand to collect funds for a worthy cause, is a time-honored tradition.
No doubt the sight of firefighters helping out a worthy cause prompted the generous citizens in our community to once again open their hearts and wallets. In all, the firefighters raise nearly $4,000 to help the elderly, the disabled and families with young children stay warm this winter.
