Waynesville Middle flattens Flat Rock on the hardwood
The Waynesville Middle School boys and girls basketball teams hit the hardwood running last week with a clean sweep over Flat Rock Middle School in the Mountaineers’ gym.
The WMS boys blasted the Eagles, 61-30 and the WMS girls soundly thumped Flat Rock, 45-21.
Currently, both the Waynesville Middle School boys and girls are in second place in the Blue Ridge Conference West Division. The boys (4-3 overall) are two games back of first place Canton Middle (7-1 overall, 6-0 West) with a 4-2 record in the West Division, while the girls (7-1 overall) are a half game back of first place Macon County Middle (5-0) with a 5-1 record in the West Division.
For Waynesville Middle in the girls’ game, Grace Glance had a team-high of 11 points, while teammate Myrissa Johnson chipped in 10 points, Cooper Richardson contributed six points, Kyleigh Trout, Delaney Buchannon scored five points each, Skylar Sutton, Hannah Clark, Hailey MacMahon and Carly Hodge finished with two points each.
In the boys’ game, Max Reister led the Mountaineers with 15 points, while teammates Trent Turner, Luke Williamson chipped in 10 points each, Nate Brafford contributed eight points, Caden Robinson, Jett Benson, Jason Frazier, Yisiah Adams scored four points each, Clay Burgess, Blake Reed chipped in two points each, Clay Cleveland and Ezra Burgess finished with one point each.
Weather permitting, Waynesville Middle is scheduled to host Bethel Middle on Thursday, Jan. 12.
