Waynesville officers promoted

Several officers at the Waynesville Police Department were promoted during a recent ceremony with their coworkers, family and friends. 

Cpt. Brian Beck will be replacing now retired Cpt. Blaine Jones. Beck is the second in command of the Police Department and answers directly to Police Chief Bill Hollingsed.

Lt. Tim O'Neill has been assigned as the Lieutenant of the patrol division to replace the vacancy left by then Beck.

Sgt. Brandon Gilmore has been assigned to the patrol division and replaced the vacancy left by O'Neill.

Sgt. Heath Plemmons has been assigned to the patrol division and replaced Tyler Trantham who has now been assigned to the recently created detective sergeant position of the Criminal Investigations Unit. Sgt/Det. Trantham was not promoted in this ceremony but he received a transfer of job assignments.

The promotion was attended by friends and family of those being promoted as well as the majority of the police department and many other law enforcement officers, including Sheriff Christopher and Maggie Valley Police Chief Scott.

Special speakers were Waynesville Mayor Gavin Brown and Town Manager Marcy Onieal, both of whom delivered words of encouragement to the newly promoted officers and police department. 

Waynesville Police Department Chaplain Tim Owens opened with prayer and provided Bibles for the ceremony. Each promoted officer was given the Law Enforcement Edition Bible that was used to swear them in.

Chaplain John Swanger closed the ceremony with a prayer asking for protection over the men and women who protect and serve the community.
