Weather winter storms

By Melissa McIntyre | Feb 27, 2014

Winter Storm Pax certainly reminded us all in North Carolina that severe weather can strike anytime.  And, as we move into spring, there will be the threat of severe lightning and torrential rains.

We know many North Carolinians rely on their smartphones in times of severe weather.  In fact according to Nielsen, 88 million iPhone and Android smartphone users accessed a weather app last June. A recent U.S. Cellular survey indicated that half of smartphone users check weather or forecasts on their phone at least once a day, while 95 percent said they check weather conditions at least once a month.

In recognition of Severe Weather Awareness Week from March 2 to March 8 in North Carolina, U.S. Cellular suggests the AccuWeather, MyRadar Weather Radar, The Weather Channel and WeatherBug free apps and tips, such as having In Case of Emergency contacts for your phone and text during high call volume, to help families prepare for thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Please let me know if you would like to interview a U.S. Cellular associate on how free weather apps and a few mobile tips can help families prepare for thunderstorms, hurricanes or whatever Mother Nature has in store for North Carolina next.
