Weekend Highlights for Jan. 6-7

The New Year is here, and what better time to get out and about this weekend? Whether you want to stay in Haywood County, venture out to Asheville, here’s what’s going on in the area and some highlights of the events you won’t want to miss!

Haywood County

Saxophonist Tyler Kittle will perform jazz during a Sunday Concert at the Canton Library from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8. The library is located at 11 Pennsylvania Ave., Canton. This concert is part of the Library Concert Series.

Also in Canton, Bulls that have been through the Mountain Research Station performance testing program will be offered for sale at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Western Regional Livestock Center, 474 Stock Drive, Canton. The 36th annual bull sale will feature 28 Angus, one Charolais, two Gelbvieh, seven Simmental and Semmental-Angus cross bulls, all that have been through the rigorous testing program.

Buncombe County

The Salvage Station presents Caz-Ma-Tazz: A Benefit for Hurricane Matthew Victims with Artimus Pyle and more starting at 6 p.m. at 468 Riverside Drive, Asheville on Friday, Jan. 6. Tickets cost $12-$15. Email: info@salvagestation.com.

Upcountry Brewing Company will present the Jarvis Jenkins Blues Band at 9:30 p.m. at 1042 Haywood Road, Asheville this Friday, Jan. 6. Tickets cost $5.

Asheville Community Theater’s 35below kicks off The Musical of Musicals (the Musical!) starting Jan. 6 at 35 E. Walnut St.  Tickets cost $20. The show recurs Fridays and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Call 828-254-1320.

The Orange Peel presents Kid Hop Hooray! — a wintertime indoor dance party at 10 a.m. at 101 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville on Saturday, Jan. 7. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $2 for kids two and older. Call 828-398-1837. Email: info@theorangepeel.net.
