Wells Fargo donates $1000 to Women of Waynesville
Wells Fargo in Waynesville donated $1,000 to Women of Waynesville to assist in the nonprofit’s efforts of helping women and children in Haywood County.
WOW will use the donation toward its “stealth missions,” which include providing necessities for women and children in the community who are facing challenges. In the past, these missions have included distributing funds, diapers, food, blankets, heaters, clothing, and toiletries collected by WOW members and their families.
The donation from Wells Fargo will let WOW to help more people in Haywood County without over-taxing members who want to provide assistance
Each year Wells Fargo gives its local branches funds to distribute as part of its Community Giving Philanthropy program. Branch manager Debbie Moody and WOW member Sherry Via were having a casual conversation when the topic of volunteering came up. Via discussed her passion for volunteering and her involvement in WOW.
“I joined Women of Waynesville in January 2015, just four months after the loss of my husband, best friend and business partner,” Via said. “I was in severe need of the group support and friendship that I immediately found in the members and board of WOW.”
Hearing about all the ways WOW gives back to the community, Moody told Via about an approaching deadline for the Community Giving Philanthropy program. WOW President Nikki White worked with Wells Fargo to submit the application and proposal.
Soon thereafter, representatives from the bank met and chose WOW as the recipient.
