Western Carolina unveils new helmet
CULLOWHEE — Just days before the Southern Conference’s Media Day in Spartanburg, South Carolina and on the heels of the Monday’s announcement of the addition of ESPN Radio 1310 and 970 AM to the list of affiliates of the Catamount Sports Network, excitement for the 2012 football season continues to build.
Western Carolina and first-year head coach Mark Speir released that beginning this fall, the Catamounts will again wear purple helmets on the gridiron, returning to a long-standing tradition in Cullowhee.
The 2012 version of the Catamount football helmet features a deep purple color with reflective gold metallic flake and a matching deep purple facemask and chin straps. The current WCU athletics logo will adorn both sides of the helmet.
