The 58th annual Bethel Cemetery Memorial Service is planned for 11 a.m. Sunday, July 8, at the Bethel Methodist Church.
The speaker will be the Rev. Dave Whitesides, a retired Presbyterian minister who grew up in the Bethel community, graduating from Bethel High School in 1948. Whitesides graduated from WCU in 1952.  He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars.  He received a bachelor of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1960.
Whitesides and his wife, Dottie, reside in Sylva.  They have two sons, Will Whitesides and the late Davis Whitesides, four granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren.
