William Dale Ratcliffe

WAYNESVILLE — William Dale Ratcliffe, 78, a native of Haywood County, passed away after an extended illness Tuesday Dec. 10, 2013, at The Homestead. Dale was the son of the late William R. Ratcliffe and Hazel Creasman Ratcliffe. He attended St. John’s School and graduated from Waynesville Township High School in 1953. Following graduation from Western Carolina University, he returned to Waynesville where he was a band and choral director at Tuscola High School for many years. He retired from the Haywood County School System as the audio-visual coordinator. Dale was a member of Waynesville’s First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at New Covenant Church, 767 Lee Road, Clyde, NC. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.
Survivors include a stepson, Curt Furtado of Waynesville, and two stepdaughters, Wendy Leopard of Clyde, and Susan Lipsey Odams of Harrisburg. Also surviving are a step-grandson, Charles Furtado of Jacksonville, and a step-granddaughter, Cydnee Leopard of Clyde. A special cousin, Lucinda Rio of Tampa, Florida, also survives.
