Williams couple celebrate 70 years
Ray and Cricket Williams, of Canton, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 9. They began dating in 1939, while attending Canton High School, and were married Aug. 9, 1942.
They have two children and one grandchild. Their older daughter, Gail, and her husband, Tony LaVopa, both have doctorate degrees in history. They have retired from their teaching positions at North Carolina State University, but still live in Raleigh, and remain active in their respective fields.
Their younger daughter, Deb, is a motorsports journalist and lives in Concord. She has had three books published.
Their granddaughter, Kelly O’Brien, resides in San Ramon, California, and works for a law firm in San Francisco.
