WLOS meteorologist visits Waynesville Middle
Jason Boyer, chief meteorologist for WLOS-TV in Asheville, visited with students in Amy Tiller’s seventh-grade science class at Waynesville Middle Oct. 16.
Throughout the hour-long learning session, Boyer explained the science of weather forecasting, provided time for a question-and-answer session with students, and demonstrated how a cloud forms.
Students were actively engaged, learning from an expert in the science field.
“I try to provide my students with positive, memorable learning experiences as often as possible within our science class. This was definitely one of those moments!” explained Tiller, who believes that the more “moments” her students have in science the more likely they will be excited about future science fields and careers.
Boyer was presented with a “Mountie Pride” shirt as a token of appreciation, which he later displayed on the news broadcast along with a picture from the day in the classroom.
