WNC Delegation Hosts Legislative Trip to Raleigh

The WNC Delegation comprised of the Haywood, Asheville Area, Brevard/Transylvania, Black Mountain-Swannanoa, Madison County and the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce joined NC State Legislators in Raleigh for their annual legislative visit. The delegation of 50 chamber members from Western North Carolina traveled to Raleigh to promote the region’s top Legislative Priorities.

Members of the WNC Delegation were given the opportunity to speak directly to our WNC legislators during the 2013 Legislative Reception Sponsored by Mission Health System, Evergreen Packaging, The Buyers Agent, Comporium, University of North Carolina Asheville, SunTrust Bank and Whitney Commercial Real Estate Services.

The group later met with Phil Berger, Senate President Pro Tem, Speaker Thom Tillis, Senator Martin Nebitt, and Representatives Susan Fisher, Michelle Presnell, Joe Sam Queen to present the WNC Legislative Priorities of: Tax Modernization/Fiscal Issues, Regulatory Reform and Infrastructure Improvement.

According to Charles Umberger, Old Town Bank, “ I was very pleased with the excellent turnout by members of the Haywood Chamber on the recent WNC Delegation Legislative Visit to Raleigh. Representatives from seven WNC Chambers met with elected officials to express opinions on the key issues facing our region. This trip continues to remain an important part of the Chamber’s mission to represent the needs of members and our community to the various elected governmental bodies.”

Haywood County Delegation members included representatives from Asheville savings Bank, Champion Credit Union, Champion Janitorial Supply, Clark & Leatherwood, Evergreen Packaging, Haywood Community College, HomeTrust Bank, Keller Williams Realty, MedWest Haywood, and Old Town Bank.
