Vendor applications are now being accepted for the first annual WNC EcoFest, an environmentally friendly festival that celebrates everything “green."

This first-time festival in Haywood will highlight everything from gardening and local foods to alternative energy, wellness and locally made products.

There will be plenty of entertainment, including an area just for kids at WNC EcoFest, which will be held on the Haywood Community College campus Saturday, May 4, rain or shine.

The event is being organized by the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the demonstrations and hands-on activities being offered throughout the festival, festival-goers will have a chance to tour the new platinum-standard Creative Arts Building on the areas of the college campus, as well as the sustainable research demonstration house.

“The Chamber’s newest festival is designed to inspire you and your family to try new things, to teach you and to entertain you,” said CeCe Hipps, the organization’s executive president. “We’ll offer tips on everything from making soup and soap, to becoming a beekeeper to learning about growing food and then preserving it. The latest environmentally friendly technologies will be showcased and there will be music and activities that appeal to the whole family.”

The festival will be grouped into the following areas:  abundant backyard, just for kids, sustainable living, heritage kitchen, locally crafted, renewable energy and wellness.

Those with knowledge to share who are willing to put on a 30-minute talk or demonstration are encouraged to fill out an application. There is no charge to be a presenter, but those who want to sell items or services will need to pay a $75 exhibitor fee for a for a 10-foot by 12-foot exhibitor booth and $100 for a food booth the same size.

Applications are due by March 22.  Those who sell meat, produce or dairy products at farmers markets can get booths for $35.

Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
