Working for conference money

Members of the Pisgah High School JROTC program obviously knew what they were doing Saturday as they moved vehicles through a vehicle wash line at top speed and with the precision that might be expected in a military operation.

Tom Long, the JROTC chief, said the event was a fundraiser to help defray the costs of sending 16 students who will be attending a conference in San Diego later this year.

About 60 cars came through the car wash, netting $900 for the morning's effort. All 16 students who will be attending the conference, plus two others, were helping Saturday.

Those attending the conference need to pay $500 each and fundraising events will make up the rest of the trip costs. Long said it will cost about $6,700 to cover the conference costs.
