Wycliffe Associates' annual meeting is July 14
The Haywood County Chapter of Wycliffe Associates will meet for its annual summer picnic from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Broyhill Children’s Home, located on Jones Cove Road, Clyde. A pot luck supper will be served; hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and guests are invited to bring other picnic foods, drinks and desserts.
The speakers will be Gene and Marilyn Ahrens, of Wycliffe Bible Translators' JAARS Center at Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Gene grew up in rural Missouri, the son of a pastor. He married his first wife, Bobbie Cooper, and in 1979, they and their four children joined Wycliffe Bible Translators.
The Ahrens lived in Papua New Guinea for nearly 20 years, serving the Bible translators through airstrip construction, dorm parenting and managing regional centers. They were planning a furlough when Bobbie suddenly became ill and passed away two days later on Jan. 24, 2005.
Gene moved back to North Carolina to work on the grounds and maintenance crew at JAARS where vital training takes place. He met Marilyn, who was serving at the Museum of the Alphabet, and they were married Oct 29, 2012. Together they have served in Suriname and Papua New Guinea on short-term assignments. They desire to continue to serve the Lord together at JAARS in the Museum of the Alphabet and in the Mexico-Cárdenas Museum.
They share the vision of Bible translation with people of all ages and from all over the world.
Wycliffe Associates is a lay organization supporting Wycliffe Bible Translators in their goal of providing the Scriptures for all the world's people in their own native languages.
