|6:30 PM - 8:30 PM|
The Haywood County Chapter of Wycliffe Associates will meet Monday, Jan. 14, at the First Baptist Church of Clyde. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church, beginning with a pot-luck supper at 6:30 p.m., program at 7:45 p.m., and ending at 8:30 p.m. All with an interest in church history, linguistics, literacy and Bible translation are invited to attend.
Arthur Lightbody will appear as John Wycliffe in "DAYBREAK!," a play in one act written by Dr. Freddy Boswell illustrating Wycliffe’s drive and passion, and encouraging us to be more sincere and devoted to fulfilling God’s calling.
John Wycliffe is credited with being the first to head a team that translated the Scriptures into the English language. His life is set in the turbulent 14th century, which was a time of grave catastrophe, notable church upheaval and the beginnings of major reformation.
He is identified in history as "The Morning Star of the Protestant Reformation" because his work was instrumental in laying the major groundwork for the radical changes, which came to Christian Europe.
Wycliffe struggled deeply with the teachings and leadership of the church hierarchy of his day. His historical reflections on his church's inadequacies are shown to provide the historical background necessary to understand his view on the importance of Scripture in a language that all can understand.
