Jim Janke writes occasional gardening columns for The Mountaineer. A retired chemical engineer, he and his wife, Pat, moved to Waynesville from the Chicago area in 2004, and in 2005 Jim became an Extension Master Gardener volunteer in Haywood County. His other passions (alphabetically) include astronomy, classical music, computers, golf, history, Star Trek and wine.
