Zaxby’s has joined Haywood Waterways Associations’ (HWA) fundraising campaign to benefit its youth education programs.

On Monday, Jan. 9, at the Russ Avenue, Waynesville restaurant, 10 percent of all sales between 5 and 10 p.m. will be donated to help support programs like Kids in the Creek.

Kids in the Creek exposes eighth-grade students to water quality and the solutions for making sure clean water is available to all users.

The HWA has hosted this program for 19 years and have reached nearly 13,000 students. It is consistently one of the most memorable experiences students have from eighth grade.

HWA’s mission is to protect and improve surface water quality in the Pigeon River Watershed of Haywood County. It is known by community leaders as a valuable resource and credible advisor on resolving water resource issues.

“We work on win-win projects,” said Eric Romaniszyn, HWA executive director. “We find willing landowners who need help to protect their land and investments. In return, we get reduced pollution and better water. We are local folks solving local problems.”

“Having a local business and great restaurant like Zaxby’s supporting us is a testament to the community’s desire for clean water,” said Bill Eaker, chair of the organization’s Fundraising Committee. “Our streams are critical to grow the food we eat, support local industries, and attract tourism dollars, not to mention the great fishing.”

Haywood Waterways is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Contact Eric Romaniszyn at 476-4667 or for more information.
